Overview

Presented by Townsville City Galleries

Join local artist Johanna Wiggers for a ceramic workshop inspired by Wedgwood’s iconic majolica leafware.

You are invited to hand-build a ceramic dish and create your own unique leaf design using local flora. You will learn beginner-friendly techniques to shape and imprint a small dish that draws on Wedgwood’s longstanding fascination with nature’s ornamental details.

As early as the 1760s, Josiah Wedgwood commissioned a range of pottery that embraced the Rococo style’s application of playful botanical motifs, featuring novelties such as cabbage terrines and cauliflower teapots. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to put a spin on this fun Wedgwood series by using tropical leaves.

Why not make the Saturday workshop a special Mother’s Day occasion? Take part in the workshop with your mother, visit the Wedgwood exhibition and then book an afternoon tea at Restaurant 1889 at The Brewery to experience the distinct pleasure of dining on Wedgwood.
