Overview

Get involved this National Tree Day at Mount Louisa

Looking for a simple way to make a real impact on your local environment? Join Townsville City Council and Planet Ark for a community planting event that’s all about giving back to nature.

On Sunday 26 July 2026, from 9am to 11am, residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and help restore green space at Mount Louisa bush walking track, end of Bayswater Road. This relaxed, family-friendly event brings the community together to plant native species that will support wildlife, improve biodiversity and help shape a healthier landscape for the future.

To get started, participants should register at gazebo at the start of the walking track on arrival before making their way to the nearby planting site. Whether you’re a first-time volunteer or a seasoned green thumb, support will be available every step of the way.

As part of Australia’s largest tree planting event, National Tree Day is a chance for people of all ages to take part in hands-on environmental action and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Everything you need will be supplied on the day, including tools and equipment.

What to bring:

  • Enclosed shoes
  • Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, long sleeves)
  • Reusable water bottle

After the planting wraps up, stick around to enjoy light refreshments and collect a free native plant to grow at home.

If you’re keen to spend a morning outdoors, meet others in your community and be part of a positive local initiative, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved.
