Overview
21 June was declared as the International Day of Yoga by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi after he received overwhelming support from 175 countries when he presented the idea to the United Nations General Assembly in December of 2014. The 6,000 year old practice of yoga is recognised on June 21 as a date of appreciation for the wellbeing practice.
The Yoga Movement has grown rapidly over the last 4 decades, spreading to every corner of the globe with over 250 million people who practice yoga worldwide. This day is to help raise awareness of the may benefits yoga gives to all humans.
The theme of IYD 2025 is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
All are welcome to connect and celebrate the global benefits of yoga on Saturday 21 June, from 8am at Jezzine Barracks (Ryan Street, near the playground).
BYO yoga mat or a large towel.
This class will be guided by Jasmine Healy-Pagán.
