Overview

Join Townsville City Council at this year’s Festival of Stories and celebrate the stories that connect us.

Running alongside Children’s Book Week from 22 - 29 August, the festival will feature a week of inspiring events and activities across all Citylibraries branches, with the headline weekend taking place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August 2026 at Citylibraries Aitkenvale.

Everybody has a story to tell - come and explore what we have to offer.

Children's Book Week

For the first time ever, Children’s Book Week will run alongside Festival of Stories, bringing Townsville families an exciting week-long program of activities across all Citylibraries branches and various community locations.

Celebrating this year’s Children’s Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories, First 5 Forever programs and other children's activities throughout the week will feature special Book Week-inspired activities and experiences.

Families are encouraged (but not required) to dress up as their favourite book character and join in the fun.

There will also be a Scavenger Hunt at all Citylibraries branches throughout the week, inviting families to explore the library and discover literary treasures along the way.

Headline Weekend

Join us for the Festival of Stories headline weekend at Citylibraries Aitkenvale on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August, featuring two days of inspiring conversations, author talks, workshops and family-friendly activities.

Hear from bestselling and award-winning Australian authors, including Sofie Laguna, Gabbie Stroud, Michael Robotham and more; children’s author Lynelle Kendall; and First Nations authors Victor Steffensen and Gary Lonesborough.
