Writing under the pseudonym Percy Rose, Rosa Christian has written a series of cosy murder mysteries, 'Beaufort's Landing', set here in Townsville and Balgal Beach, mostly. However, Book 4,' Dead Ringer'  has Charters Towers as the site for a lot of the action.

Our psychic sleuth, Xema, goes west to Charters Towers to purchase another railway carriage for her B&B in Balgal. A young German goes missing on one of the surrounding stations. When he is found he can’t remember anything and appears to have some odd behavioural changes. Xelma, the local policeman and Detective Ryan Croft from Townsville join forces to try to solve what appears to be a murder attempt and things go from strange to downright bizarre.
