Art School for Pre-teens

Brush Buddies is our weekly art class for 9 to 11 year olds. Kids come in once a week (same day, same time) and work through proper art projects — the kind that take a few weeks to finish, not a quick craft they take home the same day.

In a typical session, kids might be sketching out ideas one week, mixing colours and starting a painting the next, then layering in details and finishing touches the week after. The idea is they get to see a piece of work develop over time, the way real artists work, instead of always rushing to finish something in an hour.

Across the year, they'll try a range of things — drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media. Some projects might be a portrait in acrylics, a clay sculpture, a lino print, a watercolour landscape. Each one teaches them a new skill: how to shade, how to mix colours that actually look right, how to build up texture, how to plan a composition.

It's a structured class, not a free-for-all. There's a teacher guiding each project and showing them techniques. But kids also get a say in their own work — what they paint, what colours they use, what direction they take it. So the finished piece feels like theirs, not a copy of the teacher's example.

We run on a weekly subscription rather than booking term by term. Your kid joins once and stays as long as it's the right fit — no need to re-enrol every school holidays.

All materials are provided. Just send them in clothes that can handle a bit of paint.
