This exhibition is about the dreams and hopes of people who experience mental illness.
For all artists, painting can be a form of freedom and escape. It is the same for these artists from the mental health service. Their art is an expression of self and freedom from daily routines. The consumers cannot always articulate the meaning of their art works in words; however, a common thread in the paintings is a longing to go home, to live their life and be among people they love, on the land they love. The act of painting, and with it escaping to their dream world, for that period of time helps the artist feel better, more relaxed, and accomplished and that is the goal.
