Overview

Townsville City Council presents official Anzac Day Commemorations in partnership with the Townsville RSL and Thuringowa RSL Sub-Branches.

Anzac Day is observed nationally as a solemn day of remembrance held on the anniversary of the landing of the First Australian Imperial Force and New Zealand Army troops, at Gallipoli in 1915.

Saturday 25 April is set aside to remember all Australian and New Zealand service men and women who have served their country and to pay respect to those who lost their lives in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.


Thuringowa Services

  • 5.20am – Dawn service, Thuringowa Cenotaph, Riverway Precinct
  • 8.30am – Parade form-up (Weir State School carpark)
  • 9am – Parade step-off (Parade travels along the dirt track behind Weir State School, continues behind Riverway Stadium, proceeds along Sporting Drive, across Riverway Practice Oval, and concludes at Thuringowa Cenotaph)
  • 9.30am – Mid-morning service, Thuringowa Cenotaph, Riverway Precinct

Townsville City Service

  • 5.20am – Dawn service, Anzac Memorial Park
  • 8.30am – Parade form-up (Strand Park)
  • 9am – Parade step-off (Parade proceeds along The Strand to Anzac Memorial Park)

Townsville City Road Closures: 

Saturday 25 April 

4.30-7.30am: The Strand from Mariners Drive to Upper Wickham Street including the Melton Terrace intersection.
4.30-11am: Oxley Street between Mitchell Street and The Strand.
7.30-11am: The Strand from Landsborough Street to Upper Wickham
Street including joining side street intersections – Stuart Street, Kennedy Street, Gregory Street, Oxley Street, Fryer Street, Mariners Drive and Melton Terrace.

Townsville City Carpark Closures: 

4.30-11am, Saturday 25 April: All vehicles must be removed from carparks along The Strand from Landsborough Street to Mariners Drive. Any vehicles left in carparks during these times will be towed at the owner’s expense.

4.30am, Wednesday 22 April - 5pm, Saturday 25 April: All vehicles must be removed from carparks along The Strand from Mariners Drive to Upper Wickham Street for the safety of event logistical set up and pull down; and parade viewers and participants. Any vehicles left in carparks during these times will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Riverway Lagoon Closure

6-11am: Riverway Lagoons (upper and lower) will be closed for Anzac Day commemorations.

Ross River Temporary Closure

4-11am: Ross River will be closed to all recreational and commercial waterway users. This temporary closure is required to support the delivery of Anzac Day Commemorations at Riverway.
